Very hard, drunk strumming will result in some buzz (which is normal on any guitar), but a much played guitar like this might have a little buzz here and there. The frets show some wear, but are totally fine. One of the tuner pegs has been exchanged - I hard noticed it until I oiled them. A look at the pictures will show you some scratch marks on the top. The guitar is in a good condition for its age. Measurments 4,2 cm nut width, scale 628 mm, width at lower bouts 41 cm, depth 7,9 cm. New 11 gauge strings (steel bronze, Pyramid - made in Germany) are attached. This is more a strumming guitar, unless you are used to a higher string action and still like to solo with that. The guitar plays very soft and comfortably with a slightly underbowed neck, which has no truss rod. String action is at a well playable 2,5 mm on the 12th fret high E. It`s more twangy and percussive than mellow, but not as bright as the completely laminated later archtops and smaller models. The headstock didn`t copy from other German luthier designs, and Hoyer guitars are therefore distinctively different from Klira/Höfner/Framus/Hüttl models of the same time.Īs all archtops of that era, the guitar has a cutting wooden tone, really suited well for cutting through the mix of an ensemble. This is a big bodied archtop, typical for the era of 1950s German archtops, with the typical unique Hoyer twists: A steeply angled neck-body junction requires a special, patented bridge, which was only used by A. Hoyer exists to this day, but of course they produce completely different models now. The Hoyer company produced a lot of cool and legendary models, and this one of the earliest.
